Guruvayur: Guruvayur temple witnessed an unprecedented rush of devotees on Sunday. The line for the morning darshan extended past the South Pavement, the West Pavement and the inner road on the West Pavement to the back side of the KSRTC depot. There was a huge rush at night too. The shrine was closed at 10 o’clock in the night, as there was a two-day holiday and there was an influx of devotees to the temple town. Devotees were wandering without getting a room in the lodges.
Due to the crowd, around 3000 people performed darshan by lighting ghee lamps without standing in line. The line to prepare the ghee lamp was also long. Yes, those who came to go to the stable after the ghee lamp had been prepared, had to wait in line for hours to give and take back their shoes and mobile phones.
29,13,000 rupees have been received for performing darshan by lighting ghee lamp. Devotees cooked Ghee Payasam worth Rs 1,65,870 and Milk Payasam worth Rs 6,57,110. 22,80,960 rupees were received through Tulabharam offering. Choroon for 754 karuns and 77 marriages took place in the temple. The temple received Rs 78,71,807 as non-treasury income on Sunday.
