Chavakkad: Locals said that the earthquake was felt at Chavakkad Ovungal and Guruvayoor Chovvallur padi. Another earthquake occurred in Kunnamkulam, Erumapetty, Vellore, Vadakancherry and regions. Locals say it lasted for a few seconds. There was an earthquake in the area yesterday morning as well. There was an earthquake in Palakkad Trithala, Anakkara, Kapur and Tirumitakode areas around 4 am today. Officials informed that aftershocks may occur but there is no cause for concern.
Yasir Sutanath, who lives behind Raja School in Ovungal West, said that he felt the tremor around 4 am. Locals said that earthquakes were also felt in Chowvallurpadi area.
The earthquake was confirmed this morning at 3:55:17 AM IST. The magnitude was 2.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter is at Kottapuram between Vadakancherry and Erumapetti.
